Hello, my name is Martin! Originally from Germany, Norway has been my chosen home since 2014. I have grown to deeply appreciate this country, especially Bergen and its fascinating history. Here, I live and work as a licensed city guide, introducing visitors to the city’s rich culture and everyday life.
My passion for travel and cultural exchange has been with me my entire life. As a trained chef with a degree in hotel management, I have been working in the tourism industry for over 20 years. Since 2016, I have been guiding visitors through Bergen, sharing its history, culture, and way of life. What I love most is the personal interaction with people from all over the world and exchanging stories and experiences.
My tours are not just about historical facts – I want my guests to see Bergen through a different lens. I strive to make them feel welcome and introduce them not only to the city's landmarks but also to the daily life and traditions of its residents. As an immigrant myself, I enjoy sharing my personal experiences and offering insight into life between two cultures.
I have a vivid imagination, and often, when walking through the narrow alleys of the historic Bryggen district, I picture how life was here 400 years ago. How German merchants traded with Norwegian fishermen, how the air smelled of dried fish and salt, and how bustling commerce took place in the wooden houses. Bringing history to life and taking people on an exciting journey through time is my greatest joy.
My favorite quote is from Kurt Tucholsky: "If you want to understand the narrowness of your homeland, travel. If you want to grasp the narrowness of your time, study history." This perfectly reflects my philosophy – through travel and immersing ourselves in history, we gain a deeper understanding of the world and ourselves.
I look forward to welcoming you to Bergen and taking you on a guided tour that will show you the city from a new perspective. Join me on a journey through time and discover Bergen with all its stories and secrets!
